Ironing a shirt is an activity that everyone will have to face sooner or later. However, not everyone knows how to do it so that the end result is satisfactory. We present step by step instructions on how to iron a shirt

Step one, or start with the collar

Well ironed collar is the basis. So start ironing from there. It is important to iron the inside and outside of the collar. Set the iron on the right temperature and work. Sometimes the collars have hidden stiffening inserts, often made of plastic. Carefully adjust the temperature of the iron to suit the fabric of the shirt.

Step two, the sleeves

The second step in ironing your shirt is the sleeves. First, remove the buttons from the cuffs to make it easier to use the iron. Iron from the outside in. Remember that you cannot leave the edges of the shirt bent, as this will look very unattractive. You can use a glove to help you with this step. However, if you do not have a glove at home, you can replace it with any material you like to fill the sleeves with for ironing

Shoulders

Once you have ironed the sleeves, move on to the upper back of the shirt, the shoulders. Because of the specific shape of this part of the shirt, you can move to the corner of the board. This will help you in handling the iron. This part should be ironed with extreme care as it is very exposed. Make sure the iron reaches every part of the shoulder area and straightens out any creases

The back of the shirt

After you’ve ironed the shoulders, take care of the lower back of the shirt. Pull the shirt over the far side of the ironing board and work. Shirts often have indentations that accentuate the waist or simply make the shape of our figure more attractive. In the case of these cuts, don’t straighten them by force. A good solution is to use a steam iron in this part of the shirt, which will iron the area around the seams and edges

The final step – the front of the shirt

Undo all the buttons of the shirt, dividing it into two parts. Start ironing at the top and work your way down to the bottom. If the shirt is very creased at the buttons as well, try using the tip of the iron, or again, use a steam iron or steam alone, which can certainly tackle small areas between the buttons

What else should you keep in mind before ironing a shirt or other garment?

How do I iron a shirt? Remember to adjust the temperature of your iron! This is very important. If the temperature is set too low the iron will not iron the garment well. If you set the temperature too high you can damage your clothes by burning them. The heat label should tell you how hot your iron should be. If you can’t find this information anywhere, try to find out what kind of fabric the shirt is made of. This will make it easier to find the right temperature because each fabric has its own temperature setting. Iron linen with a delicately heated iron at around 200 degrees Celsius, synthetics at 120 degrees and viscose and similar fabrics at no more than 120 degrees

To make the job easier, hang the still-wet laundry on a hanger. This way, the clothes are not exposed to further creases

If the creases are very difficult to iron, you can use a little water. Gently spray such parts of the garment with distilled water, which does not leave sediments and discolorations.

In addition, if the creases are very visible near the seams, do not be afraid to iron them several times . Steam can also be helpful here.
