White with white, colored with colored and black with black – the division seems obvious, but what about gray clothes? Do we wash them with colors, or maybe with dark clothes? In the following article we answer this question. Read the tips and your doubts will be dispelled.
Tips for washing clothes
Clothes – whether worn for daily life, sports, work or special outings – should always be clean, fresh and in excellent condition. Of course, we need to pay attention to the material and quality of workmanship already at the purchase stage. Natural fabrics, including cotton, linen, wool or even viscose (which is artificial, but behaves just like natural), are breathable and pleasant to wear. However, they require specific treatment. We are talking here, first of all, about strictly adhering to the manufacturer’s recommendations for washing, drying and ironing. All the necessary information is always on the inner label. Markings can be in the form of generally known symbols or in verbal form, for example, “wash and iron on the left side” or “wash with similar colors.” So if we want a particular piece of clothing to serve us for a long time and be in unchanged condition, then stick to these guidelines.
Is it necessary to sort clothes before washing?
Another issue is sorting clothes – by color – before washing. This is important mainly to prevent fading and staining. First of all, we should always wash white clothes separately. Otherwise, you may see grayed or discolored fabric when you take them out of the washing machine. Besides, we also wash black clothes separately, they have a high tendency to lose their pigment, which is transferred to other clothes during washing.
That’s not all, as we are still left with colored clothes, among which we have those with less and more intense colors. If we don’t want color migration, it’s best to separate these garments. However, when it comes to dark clothes – brown, purple, burgundy – you can wash them together with black.
What to wash gray clothes with?
One more question remains – with what to wash gray clothes? With white ones, or maybe with black or colored ones? With whites it is better not – while we will not harm gray items of clothing in any way, white ones can already unnecessarily change their shade.
Putting gray and black clothes in the washing machine can end up discolored. We can do this if we want to refresh clothes in the shade of dark gray. Let’s just wash the rest with the remaining light-colored clothes.
A recommended and proven solution by many is to put in the drum of the washing machine special color-catching wipes – one to three. Then possibly they will stain just them, and not our clothes.
And do you always sort everything before washing?
