Some of the commonly used substances in cosmetics can harm our skin. Therefore, before buying a product, it is advisable to read the composition of the product. See which ingredients in cosmetics are better to avoid.

The full composition of a cosmetic should always be on the label of its packaging. The order of the listed substances is not accidental – the list begins with those ingredients, which are used the most in a given preparation, and ends with those ingredients, which are used the least. Here are some ingredients that are better to avoid, especially if they are present in large quantities.

1. SLS and SLES

That is, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (sodium lauryl sulfate) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (ethoxylated sodium lauryl sulfate) – are synthetic substances that make a cosmetic foam well. Unfortunately, they remove the protective lipid layer of the epidermis. Consequently, prolonged skin contact with this ingredient may result in irritation, dryness and even allergic reactions

2. PEG and PPG

Polyethylene glycols and polypropylene glycols are artificial compounds produced in laboratories. They make the cosmetic obtain the required consistency. Their negative impact on the skin? – These substances weaken the natural protective barrier of our skin and can damage the structure of skin cells.

3. Formaldehyde

It can also appear on labels under the names: Formalin, Methanal Methyl aldehyde, Methylene oxide, Morbicidacid, Oxymethylene. It is an irritant and can cause sensitization, rashes, and inflammation upon skin contact. It is suspected that it may have carcinogenic effects.

4. Parabens

These are preservatives added to extend the shelf life of cosmetics. These ingredients have allergenic effects and frequent use of cosmetics containing parabens can lead to skin hypersensitivity to external factors.

5. Aluminum

An ingredient used primarily in deodorants and antiperspirants. In addition to clogging skin pores, it can also build up in tissues and irritate the immune system.
